Summative Assessment : A literature review of 2000 words
Introduction to Assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to enable the student to demonstrate understanding of the research evidence underpinning an aspect of his/her practice
Aims of the Assignment: By completing the assignment the student will be able to:
1. identify a key aspect of practice.
2. select appropriate primary research papers relevant to this aspect.
3. analyse findings relevant to the practice issue.
4. provide a short summary of the articles
5. present a balanced argument.
Content of the Assignment: Students should address the following guidelines:
1. Identify a key topic from/ aspect of practice giving a rationale for choice of topic from their practice setting.
2. Select 3 (three) primary research of any research design *
3. Critically analyse the papers selected in relation to the validity, rigour and applicability of findings. You must demonstrate sufficient understanding of research designs so that you can discuss the various approaches used to investigate the chosen aspect of practice.
4. Discuss how the evidence derived from the research applies to the chosen aspect of practice
5. Support the discussion with the use of relevant and up-to-date literature.
6. Word count:2000 words (+/10%)
I would like my literature review to be about the use of cranberry juice/ products to help with urinary tract A±nfections as this is a common illness in hospitals. There needs to be 3 primary research papers to look at. If the subject does not have enough research I am open to choose another topic but it needs to be in relatA±on to nursing as I am a nursA±ng student. There needs to be about 20 references within the last 5 years would be prereffered. Also up to date reseach articles for the chosen ones. It needs to be harvard referencing. A guideline to how the university think the literature review should be set out: 1. Introduction. Introduce the assignment with a rationale for the choice of topic / practice aspect, and justification for choice of papers 150 words
2. Analysis of Papers Briefly analyse the 3 research studies, highlighting the validity, rigour and applicability of findings. You should address aspects relating to design, sampling, data collection and analysis. 1200 words
3. Summary of findings Summarise the key findings of the three studies, and discuss how generalisable or applicable they are to your chosen aspect of practice 500 words
5. Conclusion Conclusion, emphasising how the application of these 3 studies may or may not enhance nursing practice 150 words
6. References You must include the full references for your three chosen articles.
