Describe 2-3 current health promotion programs, campaigns or activities underway to address this Leading Indicator.
Current Issues in Health Promotion Practice
To prepare for this Week 5 Discussion, review the readings for this week, as well as the material within the Writing and Library Resource Guide.
By Day 4, choose ONE of the following Discussion topics to address in your post:
Option 1: Refer back to the Healthy People 2020 Objectives discussed in Week 1. Select one of the Leading Health Indicators and review the latest progress report on that Leading Indicator. Then post a response the following questions:
Do you believe the United States is on course to achieve this Healthy People 2020 objective or improving the health of the U.S. as a whole? Why or why not?
Describe 2-3 current health promotion programs, campaigns or activities underway to address this Leading Indicator.
Are any of these programs, campaigns, or activities working? What evidence is there to support your conclusion?
Option 2: What is the market demand for health promotion professionals, and what are some of the career opportunities both inside and outside of the U.S. for individuals who are interested in this field?
Use some of the web resources located in the “Websites” area to provide at least one example of a health-promotion related job for your peers. Include the job title, salary, assigned duties, and necessary credentials. Does this job description you’ve selected appeal to you? Why/why not?
Option 3: Is it really possible for an individual to become “culturally competent”? Using support from your readings, present your rationale. Then, justify why effective cross-cultural communication is important for effective health promotion practice. Offer at least 2-3 examples and support your rationale with evidence.
