Ageing of the Australian population has rapidly increased in recent years. Since the 1950s studies have identified negative attitudes of nurses towards geriatric nursing and other work with older patients (Bodner, 2009). These attitudes have prevailed and highlight the low status associated with working with older patients. Social developments and ageist stereotypes combined with increased in the old aged population have significantly influenced the health care system (Eymard and Douglas, 2012).
