My name is Tammy Walton and I currently am employed with the Veterans Hospital as a Clinical Nurse Educator. I am new to the position and am excited about this challenging opportunity.
My background is eight years critical care nurse, clinical adjunct instructor for BSN nursing students and currently with Kaplan teaching RN nursing students. I love what I do and felt once I took the courage to step outside my comfort zone and take this job, everything has fallen in place. I am married and we currently are empty nesters. My son is deployed in Afghanistan and will be coming back home the end of June, so it will be an exciting time. My role with the VA is passionate for the best quality care to be given to these veterans. My role as a public policy change agent will be building up new nurse orientation, preceptor and residency programs, which will also include the certified nurse aide orientation program.The policies written need to be updated and flow with todays evidence based practice. I dont have a lot of experience with public policy, health reform and health care financing. I am looking forward to learning more about how the laws (which I learned from my last class) will play apart with the policy and politics. The policies are guidelines for accepted practice(Grant, Ballard 2011)
