Experimental psychology is the use of scientific methods to conduct research on human behavior. It contains various specialty areas for people with different educational backgrounds.

Opportunities for holders of a Bachelor’s degree include insurance underwriter, computer programmer, computer support specialist, and budget analyst (Kuther & Morgan, 2013). Those for holders of a Graduate degree include operational research analyst, computer systems analyst, financial analyst, actuary, database administrator, and data mining. The salaries paid to experimental psychologists differ, depending on the area of employment, the level of education and work experience, and geographic location (APA, 2014). An experimental psychologist can earn as low as $35,000 and as high as $780,000 annually. Those employed in colleges, universities, and professional schools can earn an average annual salary of $80,000.
Forensic psychology is a psychology applied in the field of criminal investigations and the law. There are various specialty areas in forensic psychology requiring different levels of education. Those areas that require a Bachelor’s degree include police officer, correctional officer, forensic science technician, probation and parole officer, and juvenile detention worker. Those that require a Graduate degree include correctional psychology, forensic examiner, trial consultant, police psychology, and politics. There are also areas in forensic psychology, such as a clinical psychologist and an FBI investigator, that need a Master’s or a Doctorate degree.
Salaries paid within the forensic psychology specialty vary greatly, depending on the sector of employment. Individuals with a Doctorate degree can receive an annual salary ranging between $60,000 and $70, 0000 while those with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree can receive between $35,000 and $40,000. Forensic psychologists providing consulting services usually earn about $85,000 to $95,000 annually (APA, 2014). Investigation into the two specialty areas reveals some career possibilities that are of interest. This is because they are comfortable to handle, and they are well-paid. The most interesting thing from research into the above specialty areas is their wide range of applications. For instance, it is interesting to find the use of experimental psychology in computer systems and data mining. This shows that psychology has no limits, and it can be applied in everything that involves human activity, including technological areas.
The two podcasts selected included the Casey Antony case and episode 188. They are related to everyday life and real-world human experience. For instance, most people believed that Casey Anthony was guilty of murder because they did not like her behavior (Michael, 2014a). She was complex, attractive, and unemotional, which convinced them that she was guilty of murder of her daughter. It shows how psychology can be applied in criminal investigations and the law. There are several reasons argued in the podcast that show why she might not be guilty of murder. In everyday life, people tend to judge others based on their behavior. Episode 188 podcast discusses how psychology can help prevent one from catching the flu. The point presented is persuasion and motivation. Some requirements can persuade and motivate people to act in a way that can prevent something from occurring (Michael, 2014b). For instance, when nurses are reminded of patient health, they become keen in washing their hands. This helps prevent the spread of the flu.
