You will then be called upon to consider the manner in which culture shapes definitions of health and illness as well as how health information is communicated between individuals of different cultural backgrounds. Finally, you will be asked to identify a health problem that significantly affects a cultural group that you wish to study; this health problem/cultural group will be the focus of your session long project.
Modular Outcome Expectations
By the end of this module, the student shall be able to do the following:
1. Discuss the role of culture in defining health and illness (TD)
2. Apply the scholarly literature to describe the scope/implications of a health problem affecting a selected target cultural group (SLP)
3. Recommend strategies for integrating Western and American Indian beliefs related to health (CASE)
