QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH ARTICLES
Introduction
1. Cite the article
2. Indicate your interest in the topic
3. Determine if the researchers are qualified to conduct the research? Justify your answer.
Problem and Purpose
1. Is the problem clearly identified? If so, how did the author state the problem? If not, what do you think was the research problem?

Research Design

2. Is this design appropriate for the type of research question that was asked?
3. Does the design allow for the control of extraneous variables? Which ones and in what way?
4. Was the setting for the study natural, partially controlled or highly controlled?
Protection of Human Subjects
1. Is there any potential harm to subjects?
2. Does the author mention informed consent?
3. How was confidentiality assured?
4. Was the study reviewed by an IRB?
Sample
1. What was the target population?

3. Were the criteria for sample selection indicated?
4. If groups were used how were the groups assigned?
Data Collection
1. What instrument(s) were used for the measurement of the variables?
2. Have they been used in previous research?
3. Are the validity and reliability of the measurement instruments described?
4. How does the author describe the procedure for data collection?
DATA ANALYSIS AND RESULTS
1. What kinds of data were collected? Nominal, ordinal, interval/ratio?
2. What statistical methods of data analysis were used? What level of significance was used in interpreting the results?
3. Is the meaning of the results discussed?
DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS (Interpretation and Implications)
1. Do the data answer the research question?
2. Do the data support the researcheras interpretations and conclusions?
3. Are other conclusionas possible? If so, what are they?
4. What are the limitations of the study? Were they discussed?
5. Are there implications for education, research, practice?
6. What recommendations for further research are made?
