The most significant way in which cultural differences influence how we interpret behavior is to make us look to ourselves as the standard of what is right and what is wrong. In other words civilization reminds us that people need to be control from individual aggression (Noland, 1999) and this leads us to form groups (culture). Each of the groups then began to argue that their way of doing civilization is the right way. This creates a standard that each culture holds to as the one and only standard. Therefore, when cultural differences are seen we fall back upon OUR culture as the grid by which we interpret the world. In a nutshell cultural differences drives us to our presuppositions and it is from these presuppositions we then come to interpret behavior (ours and others). Thus, as any person comes into contact with any type of cultural difference they are pushed to their personal presuppositions and then interpret that difference based upon their own person beliefs.

This is significant because it gets us to the foundation of why and how we interpret everything. If we can get to and understand our core presuppositions then we have the ability to start on a path of seeking truth. This is important because truth is the only thing that will help us embrace right cultural differences and shun false differences.

How can we best mitigate this influence? First, it is to recognize that we each have presuppositions we hold to and fall back upon whenever differences come our way. Second, we must admit we might be wrong. Third, we must admit to the reality of truth. Finally we must start an exploration of presuppositions that is both individual and collectively with all those who are different than us.
